Although the book is under the force of gravity, the normal force by table which acts equal and opposite to the gravity prevent the book from falling.if there is no normal force, there will be only force which acts downward and in this condition, all objects Will fall towards earth.

The normal force exerted by the table keeps the book from falling.
- Normal force is the force exerted by two solid objects in contact with each other to prevent them from passing through each other.
- When a book is placed on a table, it experiences gravitational force of the earth and would normally fall. But the table exerts a force on the book to keep it from falling.
- This force is the normal force and it's magnitude is either equal to or larger than the gravitational force on the book.
