Placenta during devolopmental stages of foetus to maintain the devoloping foetus it produces some amount of progesterone and oestrogen depending on the situations when needed by the foetus..

Placenta secretes several hormones like estrogen, progestin, chorionic gonadotropins etc that are essential for the growth of the child. For the reason of secretion of hormones, placenta is known as endocrine gland.
