Places A and B are 100 km apart on a highway. One car starts from A and another from B at the same time at different speeds. If the cars travel in the same direction, they meet in 5 hours. If they travel towards each other, they meet in 1 hour. What are the speeds of the two cars?

Speed of two cars = u and v

Respective speed of two cars which goes in the same directions = 5(u-v)=100

u - v -  = 20km/hr

speed of two cars which goes towards each other = 1(u+v)=100

u+v = 100

now we have two equations

u - v = 20

u + v = 100

so u - v + u +v = 120

2u = 120

u = 60

u + v = 100

v = 100 - 60 =40

Speed of one car is 60km/hr and the spead other car is 40k/hr
