Let the speeds of the cars be x and y. It took 2 hours to cover the distance of 160 kms when the cars travelled in the opposite directions (or towards each other). So in one hour both cars might have covered 80 kms totally. So the relative speed is 80 km/hr.i.e x+y=80. Then it took 8 hours to cover 160 kms. So in hr relative speed becomes 20 kms. i.e x-y=20. We got two formula and on deriving both, we get x is 50 and y is 30. that is the speeds of the cars.
