Places A and B are 30 km apart and they are on a straight road. Hamid travels

from A to B on bike. At the same time Joseph starts from B

on bike, travels towards A. They meet each other after 20

minutes. If Joseph would have started from B at the same

time but in the opposite direction (instead of towards A)

Hamid would have caught him after 3 hours. Find the speed

of Hamid and Joseph.

Answer:

Speed of Hamid (S1) = 50 kmph, Speed of Joseph (S2) = 40 kmph

Step-by-step explanation:

First case:

Total distance covered by Hamid and Joseph = 30 km.

Therefore, S1/3 + S2/3 = 30   -----(i)

Second Case:

Total distance travelled by Hamid = (Total distance travelled by Joseph in 3 hrs + 30)

Therefore, 3*S1 = 3*S2 + 30    -----(ii)

Solve (i) and (ii), S1 = 50 kmph and S2 = 40 kmph
