Lonavla and mahabaleshwar are both on different sides.. I advise you to go to mahabaleshwar, as there are lot of places to visit and have good accommodation facilities then lonavla.
Last year same time on 2nd October, we have visited mahabaleshwar and kaas from Pune.
We started around 9–10 Am from Pune. Reached kaas around 1–2 PM. Stayed there for around 2 hrs. Around 4–5 we started towards mahabaleshwar, in the evening we had a light dinner in between, by 7:30 we we're in mahabaleshwar. We have already booked a hotel in panchgani, so just visited there directly, and after some time, we left for the market visit near by.
In the morning, we started early around 9 AM after having a breakfast. Visited most famous spots, and then by evening around 5–6 PM started back towards Pune, also had a short visit to mapro garden, and by 10–11 PM we we're in Pune.
It was one of my peaceful journey, no hurry towards reaching destinations. We we're going as normal, stopping at places were we want.
Note :
On long weekends, lot of rush will be there at all spots, last time we couldn't cover all. So start early in the morning when you reach mahabaleshwar.
In panchgani shivaji Chowk, lot of hotels and restraunts near by, inculding CCD also.
