If the planet X is closer to the sun than planet Y , then the following deductions can be made.

  • The orbital radius of Planet X is lesser than the orbital radius of Planet Y because it will experience greater gravity of Sun.
  • The planet X will receive more heat of Sun as compared to Planet Y.
  • The temperature of Planet X and Planet Y depends on their atmosphere. Because in reality Mercury is closer to the Sun than Venus but Venus is hotter than Mercury due to its outer atmosphere. The atmosphere of Venus is composed of such gases which generate Green House effect and trap the sunlight making Venus hotter than Mercury.

If planet X is closer to the sun than planet y, it can be inferred that the former will receive more heat of the sun than the latter.

Also, the radius of the orbit of planet X will be shorter than planet y.

However, the temperature cannot be inferred as it highly depends on the atmosphere of the planets.
