All cells have cell membranes, and the membranes are flexible. So animal cells can have various shapes, but plant cells only have the shapes of their cell walls. That's nice for plants, because it gives them the ability to grow up and out, where they can get lots of sunlight for making their food.

Apart from plants, cell wall which is a permeable structure is also present in bacteria, fungi and algae. The major function of cell
wall is to provide rigidity and strength and also provides mechanisms for plants to take up water. Since animals are blessed with
movement and have a body plan which imparts them strength, they do not need a cell wall.
