plants cannot absorbs nitrogen directly in air so to fulfill the nitrogen requirement they allow a symbiotic relationship with the microbes on their roots such as rizhobhium bacteria. both the plant and bacteria gets benefit .the rizhobhium bacteria converts the nitrate from the air into N2

provides to plant through roots . also the plant provides shelter to bacteria hence both are benefitted
