Plants do not grow well if the soil is acidic or basic. How can we neutralise the soil in both cases?

Excessive use of chemical fertilizers make soil acidic. Plants do not grow well when soil is too much acidic or basic.

  • When the soil is too acidic, it is treated with bases like quick lime or slaked lime ( CaO or calcium hydroxide)
  • When the soil is too basic, it is treated with organic matter ( compost ). Organic matter releases acids which neutralise the base.
