plants don't need an elaborate transport system so how do they transport there food?

Xylem helps in the movement of plants from the roots to the leaves. Xylem can only transport materials to one direction upwards. Phloem helps to carry food from leaves to other parts of plant. Phloem can transport food in any direction.
