Think about how much energy is released when dried wood from a tree is burned. Similarly, think about how our bodies derive energy from certain plants (grains, fruit and roots like carrots); vegans get all their energy from such plants. If plants truly had “low energy needs,” then we wouldn't be able to use them as significant sources of food and fuel.
