no plants cannot absorb nitrogen from the atmosphere . They absorb nitrogen from the soil

No they can not absorb nitrogen directly from the atmosphere but there is a bacteria called rhizobium in the roots of plants in soil which coverts nitrogen into nitrates. and these nitrates are then absorbed by plants.
