The turning of plant part in response to stimuli is called tropism

The movement may be towards the stimuli which is known as positive tropism and the movement away from the stimuli is known negative tropism.

The movement is in response to stimuli which may be gravity, light,water,etc and these tropic movement are called geotropism,phototropism,hydrotropism respectively.

roots show positive geotropism and negative phototropism

stem show positive phototropism and negative geotropism

These are based on wether the movements are away or towards the stimuli.
