Because plastic is thrown in sea after use.But poor sea animals do not know how to use plastic.They often get trapped in plastic and die.Sometimes they eat it by mistake and suffocate and die
It is really sad to hear this.Thus,in accordance to a recent resolution all
around the world. Mumbai has started an initiative to ban plastic completely.In Mumbai,cotton and jutr bags are being used to avoid plastic bags.Many people are using hlass bottles to avoid use od plastic bottles.There are various awareness provrammes being helď iñ schools colleges and societies to make people aware about harmful effects of plastic.
Making Mumbai Plastic Free
Who had thought plastic would one day become such an unmanageable problem for the entire world? Plastic is problematic! Its use in almost everything has led to such humongous piles of indecomposable waste matter that it has created real hell of debris on land and in water. The water bodies and the aquatic flora and fauna have been affected the most.
A walk along any river, lake, and beach is sufficient to know the consequences of this ubiquitous ugliness floating. According to Ocean Crusaders, an organization dedicated to fighting plastic pollution 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean. According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, plastic debris kills an estimated 100,000 marine mammals annually, as well as millions of birds and fishes. Scientists in their recent research have found plastic to be much more toxic than previously expected. Plastic is making our environment highly toxic.
Mumbai too adds to the plastic pollution hugely. Out of 7,500 metric tons of waste generated, 9 % is plastic waste. The flooding of the entire city during monsoons is predominantly caused by the choked drains and sewage system. Plastic is responsible this choking. The beaches in Mumbai are badly polluted, not to mention the plastic inside the sea along the Mumbai coastline.
The need of the hour is to replace plastic with environmental friendly materials. All of us need to join our hands to fight this menace and preserve our beautiful environment. We must stop using plastic altogether. The governments of various nations, including our national Government have launched anti-plastic campaigns. We can make these campaigns by saying ‘NO TO PLASTIC’. Let’s use environment friendly materials such as paper, jute, etc. and clear our planet of the evil of plastic.
The exemplary work done by Afroz Shah is worth mentioning here; he played a pivotal role in clearing 4300 tonnes of plastic waste from beaches in Mumbai. The society needs more such dedicated people as him to make Mumbai plastic-trash-free.
The Maharashtra Government has implemented the much needed ban on plastic and plastic bags. This will surely curb the plastic pollution from further deterioration.
