1) on plains we have many favourable factors for the cultivation of crops :
a) favourable climate, good rainfall
b) fertile soil
c) good irrigation due to delta's of Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.

all these are a contrast to the conditions in plateaus.

2. It has a highly eroded surface and mainly consists of hard rocks. Due to this reason, there is a very lean layer of soil in this region that too is not fertile and lack humus content.

3. The next important reason is the defect of availability of water in the whole year. The rivers of this region are rain-fed thus in summers they hardly have water to support agriculture in the region.
