plateau regions in india donot support agriculture as much as the plain region. what are the reasons for this?

plateau regions in India don't have much rivers passing through them. the rivers originated from the Himalayas flow through the northern plains making the plains green. also northern plains have rich alluvial which is good for agriculture. even the temperature conditions in northern plains support agriculture more than temperature conditions in plateaus.
