More details :

Valency : The number of electrons lost, gained or shared in a chemical reaction is known as valency.

Valence electron : The number of electrons present on the last shell is know as valence electron.

How to find valency :

  • If the last shell contains 1,2,3,4 electrons then the valency will be same.

  • If the last shell contains 5,6,7,8 electrons then we will subtract the valency by 8.
