1. carbon monoxide -

SOURCE- whenever fuels do not burn completely. when wood, coal or oil are burnt. burning of petrol and diesel on automobile also produces carbon monoxide.

HARMFUL EFFECTS- it mixes with blood and prevents it from carrying oxygen. it can cause serious problem and even death.

2. nitrogen dioxide-

SOURCE- it is given off by exhausts of automobiles and by some industry.

HARMFUL EFFECTS- it irritates eyes and affects the lungs. it causes acid rain also.

3. smog-

SOURCE- it is a type of air pollution derived from vehicular engines and industrial fumes.

HARMFUL EFFECTS- smog can cause health problems such as asthma, eye irritation and lung Infections.

4.CFCs(chlorofluorocarbons)-

SOURCE- they are used in refrigerators, air conditioner and aerosols.

HARMFUL EFFECTS- they damage the ozone layer in the atmosphere. they can also cause skin cancer.

5. acid rain-

SOURCE- sulphur dioxide combines with oxygen in the air to form sulphur trioxide. this reacts with water in clouds to form sulphur acid. rain mixed with sulphuric acid is called 'acid rain'.

HARMFUL EFFECTS- it damages building and corrodes metal structures.it also reduce fertility in soil. acid rain also cause harm to plants.
