A1. Seas have been increasingly rough with the rise in piracy attacks on the maritime traffic.
A2. Yes. 266 piracy attacks in the first half of 2011 as compared to 196 during the same period last year. A rise of approximately 34% with 60% of them being carried out by somali pirates.
A3. The pirates have become increasingly threatening with access to automatic weapons and rocket launchers, which used to be knives and small firearms a few years ago.
A4. Gulf of Aden which has maximum maritime traffic, primarily oil tankers is targeted the most.
