Answer:

subtract \:  5 {x}^{2}  +  3xy -  {y}^{2} from \:  2 {x}^{2}  - 7xy + 3 {y}^{2}  \\  = ( 5 {x}^{2}  +  3xy -  {y}^{2}) - (2 {x}^{2}  - 7xy + 3 {y}^{2}) \\  = ( 5 {x}^{2}  +  3xy -  {y}^{2}) - 2 {x}^{2}   -  7xy + 3 {x}^{2}  \\  = 3 {x}^{2}  - 4xy +  2{x}^{2}  \\ hence \: 3 {x}^{2}  - 4xy +  2{x}^{2} \: should \: be \: add \: to \: 5 {x}^{2}  +  3xy -  {y}^{2} \: to \: get \: 2 {x}^{2}  - 7xy + 3 {y}^{2}
