there are three resistors in connection.
two are in parallel so formula used will be,
r =  \frac{x  \times y}{x + y}
so total resistance for paralle will be
 \frac{6 \times 6}{6 + 6}  =  \frac{36}{12}  =  > r = 3

now one is connected in series with the parallel connection, so
tr = r + rs \\ tr = 3 + 6 \\ tr = 9 \: ohm
