Answer:

(i)  240 tiles

(ii)  42 tiles

Step-by-step explanation:

Given ,

           Tile dimensions 5 cm and 12 cm

(i) Area of region = 100 cm x 144 cm = 14400 cm^{2}

     Area of one tile = 5 cm x 12 cm = 60 square cm^{2}

     Number of tiles = (Area of region)/(Area of  one  tile)

                              =   (14400/60)

                              = 240

Therefore, 240 tiles are required.

(ii) Area of region = 70 cm x 36 cm = 2520 cm^{2}

    Area of one tile = 5 cm x 12 cm = 60 cm^{2}

   Number of tiles = (Area of region)/(Area of  one  tile)

                              =   (2520/60)

                              = 42

 Therefore, 42 tiles are required.
