33. a) When surface area of the reactant is reduced, then there will be a decrease in rate of the reaction

b) The rate will be increased if is a promoting catalyst (e.g Fe in prep. of ammonia), and the rate will be reduced if it is an inhibiting catalyst (eg BaSO₄)

c) Increasing the temperature increases reaction rates because of the extreme increase in the number of high energy collisions. It is only these collisions (having at least the activation energy for the reaction) which result in a reaction.

34. Mass of acetic acid, w1= 75 g Molar mass of ascorbic acid (C₆H₈O₆),

w2= 5.08 g

Answer

Required mass of ascorbic acid =5.08 g (approximately)

M2= 6 × 12 + 8 × 1 + 6 × 16 = 176 g/mol
