Equivalent weight of an element is the weight of element which will combine with 8g of oxygen.
________________________
Weight of element = W1 g
weight of its oxide = W2 g
weight of oxygen used to combine with W1 g of the element = (W2 - W1)g
So (W2 - W1)g of oxygen combines with W1 g of the element.
1g of oxygen will combine with = W1 / (W2 - W1) g of element
8g of oxygen will combine with = [W1 / (W2 - W1)] × 8 g of element.
So equivalent weight = [ W1 / (W2 - W1) ] × 8
Answer is C.
