Answer:
a) Well, this is a very tricky question. There is no mention of any reason as to why Helen, the ghost appeared in sections. Though, Hallock asked her why she materialized in sections, she gave no specific answer.
The possible explanation to her appearing in sections could be this that it could be the protocol to materialize or vanish. It was Helen's general style of appearing and vanishing; whenever she appeared or vanished, she did it in sections. You can say it was her style.
b) The Judgement Day is the imagined day at the end of the world when God will judge everyone who has lived. According to each human soul’s deeds, God will grant immortality or punishment. The poet’s friend will achieve immortality through God on the Judgement Day. He will feel extremely elated and joyous. He will also feel grateful to Shakespeare, his friend for having preserved memory of his noble deeds in the rhyme from one generation to another, thus keeping his friend alive until the Judgement Day.
c) Miss Mebbin was a very selfish, mean, and unethical lady. She was a real money worshiper. It appears as if money was the sole purpose of her existence. She always adopted a protective elder-sister attitude towards money. In her presence, she would not allow any money be wasted in tips to waiters. She showed mean professional ethics, when she blackmailed Mrs Packletide. No doubt she succeeded in extorting 680 pounds, but she must have earned a bad reputation among her clients.
d) Michael and his father were fond of computer games. Michael’s father had a Pentium 150 Mhz processor, with 256 of RAM, a 1.2 Gb hard-disk drive and 16 speed CD ROM, complete with speakers, printer, modem and scanner. They had all the latest computer games; they had played them all. His father was always the first one to buy any new product related to computer games that was launched in the market. They often went to Computer Fairs to buy the recently launched products. They had already in their stock a virtual reality visor and glove, and a handful of the latest interactive psycho-drive games.
e) The poet regretted his action of throwing a wooden log at the harmless snake that was retreating to its hole harmlessly. The poet had to expiate because he did a wrong act. His behavior with the snake was unjustified. The snake had just come to drink water at his water trough. The snake had not shown any aggression or hostility. The heat of the summer season had forced it out. There was a considerable distance between the poet and the snake. The snake had behaved very majestically; after slaking its thirst; it was going back to its hole. The poet had got scared and thrown a log at it with an intention to kill it. Besides, the snake was not poisonous at all. So the poet felt regretful at acting meanly. He had to feel sorry. This feeling sorry was expiation for him.
