Give reasons for the following statements:

1. Distillation is used in the separation of liquids from nonvolatile solids. For example: the separation of two or more liquids having different boiling points, Separation of alcohol from fermented materials, or as in the separation of gasoline or lubricated oils from crude oil. During the process of distillation, substances separate based on their difference in boiling points. The boiling point of the mixture varies as vapor rises in a column, due to changes in pressure and temperature. This process divides distillation into stages.
2. Winnowing is the method which is used to separate heavier components of the mixture from the lighter substances with the help of wind. It is used after the process of threshing for separating grains from husk. The hand-picking method is used to separate  large size impurities like stones, husk from the rice, pieces of dirt, etc. This method can be used in cases where the shape, size, and color of the substances are different.
