Square both sides of x=\pm\sqrt{2}

x^2-2=0

Now divide by the obtained polynomial.

The division ends without remainder.

Quotient : 2x^2-3x+1

Why I did this is because two of the roots

comes from the polynomial above.

Now,

(2x-1)(x-1)=0

x=\frac{1}{2} or x=1
