Ans: The writer leaves his village to go to London looking for gold and glory.
2) When does he plan to go back to his village?
Ans: He didn't plan to go back to his village. He would probably stay in London for rest of his life.
3) What does he mean by human filing cabinets? Why doesn't he mention houses?
Ans: The reason he didn't mention houses because he lived in the flats, rooms and garrets of the city which seems like the drawers of the human filing cabinets that stands in blank row.
4) What is the passage about?
Ans: The passage is all about a man who left his village at the age of 19 and went to live in London looking for gold and glory. He didn't plan to go back to his village since then and it had been fifteen years of his living in the city. But he never felt like a Londoner. He probably didn't lead a happy life.
