d  = {b}^{2} - 4ac
and the roots are given by
x = ( - b +  \sqrt{d})  \div 2a
and
x =  (- b -  \sqrt{d} ) \div 2a
and we know that the square of any number cannot be negative and the square root of discriminant will be imaginary if the number is negative inside a square root
