The mouldy bread is full of bacteria and fungi, which worked as an antibiotic and killed the species that resulted in the infection. Thus, the Egyptians were familiar with antibiotics and used mouldy bread. However, with the discovery of Penicillin in 1928 by Alexander Fleming put an end to the application of such uses, and since then Penicillin is used an effective antibiotic.
