Explanation:
1.a When ferrous sulphate crystals[FeSO4. 7H2O] are heated, water of crystallization is lost. And then the anhydrous salt decomposes to form red brown ferric oxide [Iron(III)] , sulphur dioxide (SO2) and sulphur trioxide (SO3) gases. ... This process of heating ferrous sulphate crystals is known as Thermal Decomposition.
b.Lead nitrate on heating decomposes to lead monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen. 2Pb(NO3)2 = 2PbO + 4NO2 + O2. NO2 is liberated, along with oxygen, as a reddish brown gas. It produces lead monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen gas.
c.When the flow of current is sufficiently high, water decomposes into oxygen and hydrogen gas. This phenomenon is known as electrolysis of water. When Electric current is Passed through tap water or impure water ,the salts present in it helps in conducting the electric current by producing ions.
d.Silver chloride (AgCl) when kept in sunlight it gets decomposed into silver and chlorine . It turns grey in color . When silver chloride(AgCl) is exposed to sunlight it get decomposed into silver and chlorine itself. This type of decomposition caused by the sunlight is called photolytic decomposition.
2.) When a burning match stick is brought close to the mouth of the test tube, the gas burns with a pop sound. This confirms the gas present is hydrogen.
3.A decomposition reaction occurs when one reactant breaks down into two or more products. This can be represented by the general equation: AB → A + Examples of decomposition reactions include the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen, and the breakdown of water to hydrogen and oxygen.
b.Electrolytic decomposition may result when electric current is passed through an aqueous solution of a compound. A good example is the electrolysis of water. Decomposition of sodium chloride:On passing electricity through molten sodium chloride, it decomposes into sodium and chlorine.
