Answer:

(1)

let the two numbers be x, y

one number is thrice the other;

x = 3y ------(1)

difference between two numbers is 26

x-y = 26 -----(2)

substitute (1) in (2) ;

3y - y = 26

2y = 26

y = 13

put y=13 in (2) ;

x - 13 = 26

x = 26+13 = 39

x = 39, y = 13

(2)

let the two number be x, y

x/y = 4/7

x = (4/7)y -----(1)

from (1) larger is y, smaller is x;

thrice the larger added to twice the smaller is 56

3y + 2x = 56 ------(2)

put (1) in (2) ;

3y + 2(4/7) y = 59

((21+8)/7) y = 59

29y = 59*7 = 413

y = 413/29

substitute and calculate the x....

Hope this helps you...
