SOLUTION

GIVEN

A force of 20N accelerates a ball of mass m₁ to 4 m/s² and accelerates another ball of mass m₂ to 10 m/s²

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

Newton's Second law :

Force = Mass × Acceleration

TO DETERMINE

The masses of each ball

EVALUATION

Here it is given that a force of 20N accelerates a ball of mass m₁ to 4 m/s² and accelerates another ball of mass m₂ to 10 m/s²

For mass m₁ :

Force = F = 20 N

Mass = m₁

Acceleration = a = 4 m/s²

Now we have

Force = Mass × Acceleration

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: F = m_1a }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 20 = m_1 \times 4 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:  m_1 = 5}

Mass of first ball = 5 kg

For mass m :

Force = F = 20 N

Mass = m₂

Acceleration = a = 10 m/s²

Now we have

Force = Mass × Acceleration

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: F = m_2a }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 20 = m_2 \times 10 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:  m_2  = 2 }

Mass of second ball = 2 kg
