according to question
1/2a are grazing.
from remaining (1/2) 3/4th are playing and
Rest means 1/4th=9
as,1/4th=9 eq.1
so,remaining 3/4th =27eq.2
so by adding eq.1 &2
we get,
1/2 th of the total deer =36
as 1/2 are grazing
then total no. of deer
=1/2+1/2
=36+36=72
so,the total no. of deer are 72

According to given sum,

Let number of deer in the herd be x.

Then number of deer grazing = x/2

remaining deer = x/2

Number of deers playing = 3/4×x/2
=3x/8

Number of deers drinking water= 9

Number of deers = number of deers grazing + number of deers playing + number of deers drinking.

=> x =x/2+3x/8+9

=>x/8=9

=> x= 72 .

so, number of deers = 72
