Answer:
- we perform distillation on the fact that different solutions have different boiling point. if we heat the solution too hot too quickly then the different components of the solution will not get adequate time to get vaporized and separate. every solute need some time to get separated from its solution
- the composition of vapour above the liquid is of solutes which are more volatile than the liquid component. because volatile substances have low boiling point and vaporize quickly. for an example in a solution of water and alcohol, alcohol is more volatile. that's why alcohol with get separated first from the water.
- if there are two or more volatile solute in the solution then there is a chance that more than one solute gets vaporized at the same time. to prevent mixing of vapour solutes, fractional bead columns are used. these columns blocks the the solutes with higher boiling point and allows only solute with low boiling point to reach upto condenser and then separate from solution.
- understand the third question by an example:-
- suppose you have solution of water petrol and alcohol (assume that petrol is soluble in water)
- if you conduct fractional distillation then there is a chance that both petrol and alcohol gets vaporized simultaneously
- to prevent mixing of the two solutes, fractional bead columns blocks the the alcohol vapours ( which have high boiling point and vaporize later ) and allows petrol with low boiling point to vaporize and separate from the solution first.
