Length of large pole = 14m = 9m + 5m

Length of small pole = 9 m

Given, They are on same base and they are poles it simply means that they are parallel to each other, Due to this distance will be same at point between them, Hence,

Base = 12 m ,

By Pythagoras Theorem,

we have find the distance between their tops, so base will start from the end of small pole, Now

Base = 12 m , Base cant be change because this is the distance between 2 parallel poles

⇒ ( length of large pole - length of small pole )^2 + ( base )^2 = ( distance )^2

⇒ ( 9 + 5 - 9 ) ^2 + ( 12 )^2 = distance^2

⇒ ( 5 )^2 + ( 12 )^2 = Distance^2

⇒ 25 + 144 = Distance^2

⇒ 169 = Distance^2

⇒√169 = Distance

⇒ 13 = Distance

Hence, Distance between their poles is 13 m
