Given: A graph in which distance (in km) is plotted on the y-axis and time(in min) is plotted on the x-axis.

To find:

  1. Which part of the graph represents uniform motion?
  2. Mention the time interval for which object is at rest
  3. How much time does the object take to travel a distance of 8km.

Solution:

  1. Uniform motion is a distance vs time graph is shown using a linear slope. Hence, the part AB of the given graph shows uniform motion because the object travels equal amount of distances with equal amount of time.
  2. An object at rest is shown using a flat line as such in part BC of the graph. The x-coordinates of the graph doesn't change with it's y-coordinates. The graph is flat from time = 12s to time = 18s. Therefore, time period = 6s.
  3. Since the straight line from 8km to graph intersect the straight line from 10s to the graph, it takes 10s for the object to cover a distance of 8km.
