Lets convert the denominators of the 2 fractions using LCM and compare them. So-

5/8 = 5/8 x 3/3 = 15/24

7/12 = 7/12 x 2/2 = 14/24

Now the denominators are same, so the fraction having larger numerator will be larger.

Clearly, 15/24 is larger that 14/24
