1) Three reasons which prove that elections in India are democratic are
Elections in India are conducted and supervised by the Election Commission in India. It is a strong and an independent body which supervises the electoral procedure in the country. It may punish a candidate for violating the code of conduct and prevent the misuse of the government’s power to win elections.
In India, free and fair elections are held under the supervision of the Election Commission. If it finds that polling was not fair in some constituency, the Election Commission can order fresh poling.
It has been found out that in India, the poor, illiterate and underprivileged people vote in larger number as compared to the rich and the privileged section. Further, in India, people give lot of attention to elections as they believe that they can influence the governance of the country by voting in favour or against a party or a candidate.
3) An election is a formal group decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual or multiple individuals to hold public office.
Drawbacks of elections are:-
1) Lack of open political debate or an informed electorate.
2) Unfair rules.
3) Interference with campaigns.
4) Tampering with the election mechanism.
