Let x be the no. of books in second row

We are given that the first row contains 25% more books than the second row

No. of books in first row = x + 25% x

= x + 25x/100 = 1.25x

We are also given that the third row contains 25% less books than the second row.

No. of books in third row = x - 25%x = x - 25x/100

= 0.75x

We are given that the total no. of books are 600

So, 1.25x+x+0.75x=600

3x=600

x=200

No. of books in first row = 1.25x=1.25(200)=250

Hence The number of books in first row is 250.
