the answer is 1000km toward east

500km and 500km will neglect each other because they are in opposite direction and magnitude are same
so the remaining 1000km is displacement

See it's all about geography since north pole is the highest point so if. You move. 500 km south and move 1000km it's well till then but as soon you will start moving in north due to earths spherical shape you assume you are walking straight in north but you will be actually taking a curve path and reach 500 km back to the same point at north pole it's just a rough analysis hope it will help
