1.When non-metals react with oxygen the non-metallic oxide is formed. Non-metallic oxides are acidic. They form an acidic solution when dissolved in water, turning litmus solution to red colour. Non-metal oxides like CO2and SO2 react with water and give acids.

2.When an acid reacts with metal, a salt and hydrogen are produced: acid + metal → salt + hydrogen An example: nitric acid + calcium → calcium nitrate + hydrogen The salt that is produced depends upon which acid and which metal react

3.Metals react with water and produce a metal oxide and hydrogen gas. Metal oxides that are soluble in water dissolve in it to further form metal hydroxide. But all metals do not react with water

4.Corrosion is a natural process that converts a refined metal into a more chemically stable form such as oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment.
