Answer:

Remainder = – 17

Note:

★ Remainder theorem : If the polynomial p(x) is divided by (x - a) , then the remainder obtained is given as p(a) .

Solution:

Given : polynomial 8x³ - 6x² + 15x - 7

To find : Remainder, when given polynomial is divided by 2x + 1 .

Now,

Let the given polynomial be p(x) .

Thus,

p(x) = 8x³ - 6x² + 15x - 7

Also,

If 2x + 1 = 0

then x = -1/2

Thus,

According to the remainder theorem , if p(x) will be divided by (2x + 1) , then the remainder R obtained will be given as p(-1/2) .

Thus,

=> R = 8(-1/2)³ - 6(-1/2)² + 15(-1/2) - 7

=> R = 8(-1/8) - 6(1/4) + 15/(-1/2) - 7

=> R = -1 - 3/2 - 15/2 - 7

=> R = -1 - 7 + (-3-15)/2

=> R = - 8 - 18/2

=> R = - 8 - 9

=> R = - 17

Hence,

Remainder = 17
