Question:--

i) Combustion of coke is a combination reaction. co, is not a pollutant. Then why is combustion of coke harmful?

Answer:

Combustion of coke produces a lot more than just CO2. There are a whole host of by-products that are toxic and pollutants. A few examples would include phenolic and other organic products, as well as cyanides, sulfides and ammonia.

You may be confusing combustion of coke with combustion of carbon which will produce CO2 and no other harmful by-products.

ii) Which reaction followed by two combination reactions are involved in white wash of walls?

Answer:

Decomposition of limestone (CaCO3) gives quicklime (CaO) which combines with water to form slaked lime, Ca(OH)2 which after putting on the walls, combines with CO2 of the air to form CaCO3.

iii. Give one use of tin plating in daily life.

Answer:

Tin Plating uses in daily life:

Tin has many uses. It takes a high polish and is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion, such as in tin cans, which are made of tin-coated steel. Alloys of tin are important, such as soft solder, pewter, bronze and phosphor bronze. A niobium-tin alloy is used for superconducting magnets.

iv) How photochemical reactions have played an important role in photography?

Answer:

Photography involves a photochemical process which converts silver bromide to metallic silver by the action of photochemical reaction.

2 AgBr ----> 2 Ag + Br2

Silver bromide is used as an emulsion which develops a photographic image. On exposure to light silver bromide is decomposed to metallic silver and it preserves the photographic image.
