Original height of tree = 15 m

Let the length of standing part of tree be x.

Then the length of broken part of tree be 15 - x.

sin 60° = \frac{perpendicular}{height}

\frac{\sqrt{3} }2}  = \frac{x}{15-x}

15\sqrt{3} -\sqrt{3} x=2x

15\sqrt{3} = 2x + \sqrt{3} x

15\sqrt{3} = (2 + \sqrt{3} )x

x = \frac{15\sqrt{3} }{2+\sqrt{3} }

Rationalize

= \frac{15\sqrt{3} }{2+\sqrt{3} } × \frac{2-\sqrt{3} }{2-\sqrt{3} }

= \frac{30\sqrt{3} -45}{4+2\sqrt{3} -2\sqrt{3} -3}

=30\sqrt{3} -45

Given \sqrt{3} = 1.73

= (30 × 1.73) - 45

= 51.9 - 45

= 6.9 m

Hope I go that right. Diagram included below.
