Question:

Find the area of a rhombus whose side is 5cm and whose altitude is 4.8cm one of the diagonal is 8cm long. Find the length of the other diagonal.

Answer

The length of the other diagonal is 6cm.

Explanation:

Side of the Rhombus = 5cm

Altitude of the Rhombus = 4.8cm

Area of a rhombus = side × altitude

Area of the rhombus = 5cm × 4.8cm

Area of the rhombus = 5cm × 4.8cm

Area of the rhombus = 24cm²

Area of the rhombus = 24cm²

diagonal of the rhombus = 8cm

Let the other diagonal of the rhombus = a

Area of a rhombus = 1/2 × ( product of diagonals )

⇏ 24cm² × 1/2 × 8cm × a

⇏ 24cm² × 4cm × a

⇏ 24cm²/4cm = a

⇏ 6cm = a

The length of the other diagonal is 6cm.
