Explanation:
Dodo is an interactive application that is built with the intent to let its users 'meet' with the Dodo bird, who has been extinct since the 17th century. Having meeting with the bird, the application aims to somehow bring Dodo bird back to life, even only virtually, to enable users to get a glimpse on how the bird used to live in the Mauritian forest. In this application, which is an interactive projection, to be exact, users are able to interact with the Dodo bird, as well as certain objects in the virtual environment, giving them the experience of witnessing the bird's behaviours and responses towards human gestures, thus giving them the illusion that they are seeing a real living Dodo bird in front of them. The application starts with user walking to the screen which is already showing a rainforest, the habitat of Dodo birds. After standing there for a few seconds, user would see a dodo walking slowly into the scene. This would be done by an infra-red camera, detecting user's body being there. The bird would stop walking at a certain distance from the user, as if it is sensing the user's presence in its habitat. User would then try to get nearer to the bird, and the bird would be hesitant at first, when the user tries to approach it. This, is where the movements and gestures of the user will determine the bird's response. If user moves slowly, in a very relaxed manner, dodo would be more likely to remain calm and let the user to come close to it.
