Given :-

  • Population of town increases by 10% annually .
  • Present Popluation of town = 24000

To Find :-

  • population of town a year ago. ?

Solution :-

Let us Assume That, A year ago population of town was X .

Than,

A year ago population of town = x

→ increase = 10% each year = 10% of x

So,

Present Population = x + 10% of x

Therefore,

x + 10% of x = 24000

→ x + (10*x/100) = 24000

→ x + (x/10) = 24000

→ (11x/10) = 24000

→ x = (24000 * 10) / 11

x ≈ 21,818 . (Ans.)

Hence, Population of Town a year ago was 21,818.
