plants take in water from the soil by the process known as osmosis.........
here ,
plant root hairs contains cell sap at a concentration higher than than of the surrounding soil...

i. e , water molecules are more in d surrounding soil.... therefore following the process of osmosis.....water molecules moves from soul water (higher concentration ) to the root hairs (lower concentration ).....nd thus water is absrbed..
